Totally agree about EW. It’s been my goto economy bourbon for years. I do like a bit of orange peel in my Old Fashioned.

I'm a Rye guy (Rittenhouse of course) in my OF, but I'll give this a shot anyway. Can do a 50/50.

I am doing this. I have some Canadian Club Rye to try this with. I should get a bottle of Evan Williams Black too.

My favorite cheap rye is Old Overholt. It definitely costs more than EWB. But if you buy a large format bottle it’s still under a dollar an ounce, and it makes a great Old Fashioned. If you have both, try a split base -- 50/50 rye/bourbon.

It was good. Just don’t have one after a McMorris scotch old fashioned. It doesn’t quite live up.

Thanks for breaking it down so well. I used some Demerara syrup. Here is my cocktail life hack: use oral medicine measuring cups (like come with kids’ medicines). Especially those with metric and standard measures. A fat teaspoon is really about 7.5 mL. I find it easier to measure in a cup I can put on a flat surface than a spoon I’m holding. Cheers!
