I have a bottle of Becherovka I bought while backpacking through Prague 15 years ago. I planned to make Betons but never did. Now I know what to make! I don't have any maple syrup, so I'll have to substitute another. Maybe agave syrup.
If you have brown sugar of some kind, I’d go for a brown sugar syrup at a 2:1 sugar/water ratio. You want something heavy and rich. But even a conventional 2:1 white sugar syrup should work OK.

I tried the Lament and we were definitely lamenting the overpowering salt. I triple checked the amount, but it was way too much to be palatable.
Can you describe the flavor more precisely, or add comparables?
Lindsey’s Lament sounds like a drink that should have some Malort in it!
Now I’m tempted to make a version with Malort dashes...
Fun fact, Malort Dashes was my Academic Decathlon name.
