I know feel better about my teaspoon-ish teaser of Rose’s Lime Syrup I used to put in my G&T’s in my college days in the early aughts. It got a lot of compliments from the fairer gender.
After visiting Barr Hill distillery in Montpelier, VT I returned home with their regular + Tom Cat gins and a bottle of their tonic syrup. Bit of a splurge (the syrup is ~$30/375ml bottle) but it's really delicious (made with real cinchona bark + Barr Hill's own raw honey) and with their excellent eponymous gin makes a superb G&T. Well worth a visit if ever in the area (they have a great cocktail bar too).
I'm a bit surprised that you use Schweppes, given your rigor about ingredients. It's a completely personal observation, of course, but I find high-fructose corn syrup too ... syrupy. It leaves a filmy feeling in my mouth. Q is my go-to, and Fevertree is excellent as well. I'm sure I'm overlooking other options. (Q mixers also has other interesting offerings, like Mule mix and Elderberry tonics.)
I'm curious to know if you've experimented with mixers.
Add 3 dashes of Ango to this recipe and it makes a different but still wonderfully refreshing cocktail. A pink gin and tonic!
Came here to suggest this too, pink G&Ts are my favorite (and the lime is essential).
Your ratios are intriguing. I prefer 2:1, while my wife is closer to your ratio, or maybe even 4:1.
Euro Schweppes isn’t bad, but in the US I can’t drink a G&T if it’s not Fever Tree tonic.
Oh yeah—and lime. Lots of lime. But “G & T & L” just doesn’t roll off the tongue the same way, does it?
Quick, while Peter isn't looking - post your favorite vodka cocktails!

I remember Surge. What ever happened to it? (And OK Soda too.)

I particularly like a gin and tonic with BOTH lime AND lemon (especially this time of year, when I can still get Meyer lemons pretty easily).
Wouldn’t a Fresca work even better than a Surge?
